Incident: On 28 October 2018, two workers receive serious injuries, when a 15tonne crane being used to dismantle a centrifuge, came into contact, or was in close proximity to 11,000kV overhead powerlines.

Alleged breach:  

PCBU having a health and safety duty under section 19(1) of the of the WHS Act, failed to comply with that duty contrary to section 32 of the WHS Act.

Summary of undertaking:   

The following are key commitments given: 

  • Develop and implement an automated WHS induction program for Council
  • Develop and implement a Council contractor management program
  • Implement a WHS cultural improvement program at Council
  • Implement a community safety awareness program as part of National Safe Work Month, that is repeated each October, for the life of the EU.
